Mexico is the first Latin American country to offer residents and tourists Google's Street View feature.

Traveling throughout Mexico may have gotten easier. Google Maps launched its Mexico version of the navigating tool in November 2009.

The navigating tool — which has been available in many countries throughout the globe such as Spain, the United States, and also throughout the United Kingdom — is now available at http://maps.google.com.mx.

Travelers and Mexico residents alike will be able to benefit from all the features that Google Maps Mexico offers. The Local Business Center feature, for example, provides a map that pinpoints the exact location of businesses such as restaurants and bars. Both big and small businesses are encouraged to enter their information in Google's database for potential clients to see on a map.

Visitors doing research for an upcoming trip to Mexico City can easily find all the bars in any neighborhood such as the historic Coyoacán neighborhood by searching, for example, "bares en Coyoacán." A list of every bar in Coyoacán, the address, and map location, will pop up on the left-hand side of the screen.

Travelers can look up all of the Mexico sights they would like to visit before a trip, save them to "mis mapas" or "my maps," and access these locations when they are on the road. Uploading the cell phone feature of Google Maps Mexico can also come in handy when traveling throughout Mexico.

Google Street View Mexico

Perhaps more exciting and useful to Mexico residents and travelers to Mexico is the launch of the Street View feature, which allows users to see an image of the actual street or location of the place that is being researched. It's the first time that a Latin American country has been able to enjoy Google's Street View tool.

So far, the feature only allows street views of the following Mexican cities:

  • Monterrey
  • Guadalajara
  • Mexico City
  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Playa del Carmen
  • Cozumel
  • Cancún

Ever booked a hotel online and been surprised by the neighborhood it was in, or how different it looked from the hotel website photos? Travelers can now check out street images of any hotel in seven Mexican cities and check what kind of street and neighborhood it's really in. It's also makes navigating Mexico easier when visitors have both images and street addresses available.

Creating a Personal Google Map

Visitors to Mexico can also use the new feature to create their own maps of anything from favorite eateries to must-see Mexican hotels. These personal maps can be shared with friends who are interested in traveling to Mexico.
